exclusive casezine.com interview

Where are you based?

I’m Based out of Philadelphia, Pa!

Why are you an artist, and how did you first decide that art was your path in life?

I’m an artist because it’s the only thing that has been consistent in my life that’s brought me joy. I knew that this was my path when I started receiving positive feedback from viewers other than family.

How did you get into drawing and art?

My mother.

How did you chose the name Nose?

In High School I would eat lunch with the graff writers, and slowly started getting into the culture. So I liked the letters o, s, and e, but wanted an even amount of letters so I added an N and it just happened to spell nose.

Could you tell us more about your work?

My entire education of art I was taught the traditional styles of painting and drawing. This became extremely boring to me. I always felt that my still life’s, and life studies could use a little more energy and a bit of my personality. It was when I found street art that I felt free, so I slowly started to fuse the two. From learning traditional aspects of art and finding self expression through street art, I was finally able to create something that felt true.

How would you describe your style?

Hmm… That’s a tough one, Energetic, Character based, and fun.

What is your inspiration and what drives you?

When people appreciate my work I’m driven, and for the pureness of just creating.

How have you handled the business side of being an artist?

I’m just starting to get the grasp of the business side of being an artist. There’s so many aspects of the art business, but its working out.

What artists have influenced you, and how?

There’s allot but to name a few in no particular order, Sam Flores, Jeremy Fish, Jim Houser, Don Pendleton, Aj Fosik, Mr. Maxx Moses, chor boogie, and Stephen Powers all because of their originality and style.

What are your thoughts on graffiti being just as likely to be found in a gallery as on the streets these days?

I love it. It allows you to see the versatility of the artist.

There is a very fine line between those who view graffiti as art and those who see it as vandalism, what are your views on this?

Its most definitely art, every piece tells a story.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken for your art?

Graffiti.

What are the best and worst parts of being a full-time, working artist?

I would love to work with Don Pendleton.

Have you done much or any commercial work?

I’ve been doing allot of clothing design work for a few companies. I had a shoe line come out from Converse about a year ago, and recently released my first vinyl toy through Dreamland Toy Works. So its been a little but since I recently graduated college I’ve been doing more.

What other interests do you have outside of drawing/art/?

Film making, and Skateboarding.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Hopefully doing what I’m doing now, but on a more ambitious and prestigious level.

What advice would you give to an artist just starting out?

DON’T GIVE UP! And stay true to yourself.

Do you have a favorite piece?

Probably my rendition of the Ninja Turtles that I did when I was four.

What are you working on currently and what plans do you have for the future?
